I cannot believe it's March already! So many great things have been happening for myself and Mango Sticky Rice that I am just so thankful all the hard work is paying off.
A couple of weeks ago, I got an email from an actress, Katherine Park, from San Francisco who wanted to perform some of the music from our film. We auditioned her last year in August, and months later, she still wants to be a part of it. David, Diana and I Skyped with her and had such a great conversation! She told us she is very involved in the Asian American community in San Fran, and that she wants to help anyone to rise and be noticed for their work. It was really touching to hear how much she connected to the film, and how she wanted to do everything she could to promote it. She loved that it was a contemporary film with Asians in it, without it being an Asian film. It blows my mind every time I hear someone say something like that to me. As a director, our goal is to move the audience. I think this is the first time it's hitting hard for a lot of people. It makes me feel like I'm right where I should be, and I'm a part of this movement.
Kathrine also introduced me to Kat Iniba, the host of Halo Halo on LA 18. Kat showcases local Asian American talent whether it's films, actors, music artists, or pioneers. After sending her our film, she was very excited to invite us on set for an interview. It's freaking crazy. And amazing. David, Mina, Chris and I will be joining Kat Iniba to record our segment at the end of the month and air early April.
Sometimes the amount of work and hustle blinds me. It's things like this that reminds me to take a second to breathe and be happy that I get to wake up every day and do what I love.
